Peru prepares for new outbreaks of COVID-19 in China

The National Center for Epidemiology, Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) of the Ministry of Health (Minsa) It has been observing the behavior of COVID-19 in China, where a new outbreak is taking place causing hundreds of infections.

The head of the CDC Peru, Cesar Munayco He expressed that the concern of the health authorities is that new variants or lineages of COVID-19 may arise due to the tsunami of cases and stressed the importance of being prepared for the appearance of a new strain of this disease.

The specialist highlighted the importance of completing the vaccination schedule against COVID-19 to be protected against possible infections and avoid serious illnesses. ”It is necessary to go advancing vaccination to be able to have an important population protection and there are no lives to regret,” he asserted.

COVID-19 cases in China

Since the last weeks of 2022, there has been an increase in COVID-19 infections in China that has generated international concern. In this sense, the WHO asked China to strengthen viral sequencing, clinical management and evaluation of the effects.

Minors between 6 months and 5 years: Two doses (With an interval of 28 days)

Minors between 5 and 17 years: Three doses (The second at 21 days and the third five months later)

Over 18 years: Four doses (The second at 21 days, the third five months later and the fourth five months after the previous one)

On January 1, vaccination began with the bivalent dose, that protects from the original strain detected in Wuhan, and from the Ómicron variant, which caused millions of infections in the world. In the first stage, this vaccine is being administered to the health personnel who is on the front line to fight the disease. The next group in the order of prioritization are the elderly and people with comorbidities.

The Minsa reported that between January 15 and 20 a new batch of Comirnaty Original/Omicron BA vaccine. 4-5 from the Pfizer laboratory, and it is expected that, until March, shipments will complete 13 million doses.
